1. REFLECTION

Global Warming, Ecosystem Destruction and Ozone Depleting

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs, but not every man's greed.” Mahatma Gandhi once said. Elders told me that before they have clean and clear waters, fresh air, beautiful mountains and trees, good weather, and bright sky but they asked me, what is happening to Mother Earth? Where's the clear water, fresh air, the trees? I looked around and I asked the same question to myself. Where are the things that they are talking about. I wondered why? they said this is cause by mans greediness, they can't be contented on what they have and now they are destroying their own habitat, and I agreed because of this behavior we are experiencing what we call Global Warming.

Global warming is the greatest challenge we are facing planet. There are many causes of Global Warming. The destruction and burning down of tropical forests , traffic clogging up the city streets , rapid growth of unplanned industries, the use of CFCs (Chlorofluorocarbon) in packaging and manufacturing products, the use of detergents etc. cause Global Warming. Besides, overpopulation, deforestation are the factors causing Global Warming. The presence of mills, cars and factories in an unplanned way has a great effect on our environment. These mills, cars and factories produce black smoke which gets mixed with air and increases the amount of CO₂ (Carbon Dioxide) which can destroy our ozone layer.

Global Warming is also caused by Ozone Depleting, it is the decline of our ozone in the Earth's stratosphere, it has created holes in our Ozone layer that causes Ultra Violet Rays to enter the earth which is dangerous to everyone. If the ozone layer is completely depleted by human action, the effects on the planet could be catastrophic. Antarctica was an early victim of ozone destruction. A massive hole in the ozone layer right above Antarctica now threatens not only that continent, but many others that could be the victims of Antarctica's melting icecaps. The production and emission of CFCs, chlorofluorocarbons, is by far the leading cause of this Ozone depletion, other causes is the burning of plastics, rubber tires. factory and vehicle smokes and even smokes from cigarettes can have a big effect on our ozone layer. I have mentioned about the catastrophic effects of this ozone depletion, this UV-R (Ultra Violet Rays) can increase the cancer levels just by being exposed to this UV-R, other than cancer increase rates malaria and other deadly diseases.

The environment will also be negatively affected by ozone depletion. Effects on animals will also be severe. The planet's climate could also be affected by depletion of the ozone layer. Wind patterns could change, resulting in climatic changes throughout the world.

Global Warming is caused by mans activities. Man destroys the ecosystem for their own good. This destruction is caused by logging, mining, some people destroy the forest for urbanization. They cut down trees, burn down forests and they even plain mountains just to build factories which can cause to the loss of habitats for the animals, the loss of fresh air, the loss of trees that can help on the prevention of soil erosion.

We are experiencing Climate Change thru mans greediness. We don't suffer climate change because we created it. The things we can only do is to make Mother Earth free from pollution, this is possible by helping each other to build and heal our Mother Earth.

#2 Distance Education

1. Traditional Face to Face Education is where teachers and students meet up in a place and time. The teacher explains the lessons, give activities, assignments and quizzes in front of the students live. In face to face education both parties usually meet at a campus or a school; while Distance Education is a form of teaching where teachers and students are separated by time and place, the teacher in D.E. give their lessons, assignments, activities and projects thru the use of media technology such as computers with internet connection. In Face to Face Education parties are required to meet up while in D.E. students don’t need to go to a campus or a school because of the use of media technology; they can study anywhere at computer shops or at their own home.

2. Distance Education has many benefits; thru D.E. a student can save time and even money. Why? Because in D.E. commuting is no more a problem, as I have said in item number 1 students can study anywhere as long as there is a internet connection or even at comfort of their own home, another is the problem on tuition fee, fees in D.E. is affordable compared to Universities and Colleges. In D.E. you can also improve your knowledge and skills on computer using, with D.E. you can review, make assignments, projects any time, all of this are possible as long as there is an Internet connection.

3. Interaction is an important component of any learning service. There are four types of interaction in D.E., first is the learner to content interaction, this interaction between the learner and the content or lesson, it takes place when the leaner establishes new ideas through encountering new lessons. Learner to Instructor interaction, interaction with the Instructors can help clarify unclear or vague ideas or points, another interaction is the Learner to Learner, we know that in D.E. physical interaction is impossible but through the use of internet, Learner can access to other Learners to team up and help each other in projects, assignments and they can even review together with the use of internet in this way they can complete their requirements faster. The fourth interaction is the Learner to Technology or System Interaction, in these interaction students can improve their skills and knowledge on the use of computer and technologies, by these interaction Learners can easily access to the internet faster and better because of their knowledge on computer and other technologies. By the use of this four Interactions Learners or Students of D.E. can have a good performance in their Distance learning.

4. I based my explanation on what I have learned from D.E., Interaction or Communication is the primary factor or main ingredient in D.E., Interactions with the lesson, co-learner, instructor and with the technology can give a more organized way of studying. it can easily clear unclear points through interaction/communication with friends, the quote also pointed out that a learner can easily be in a group or join a group with other learners through the use of D.E.

HOME

(A Reaction Paper)

The film home by Yann Arthus-Bertrand is a picture of the wonderful scenes of the Earth and the destruction done to it by humanity. It includes a moving narration about the evolution of the Earth, nature, agriculture, humans, and the crises of habitat destruction, energy depletion, climate disruption, degradation...of the environment, health, economic disparity, and more.

The movie starts by taking the viewer back to the beginning of Earth and how life came to Earth, the movie also pictured the beauty of Earth. From this movie we can learn that the world is four billion years old, we humans are only 200,000 years old than the age of the world. The movie tells how our mother earth evolved, how the beautiful trenches were formed, the wonderful blue color of the sea, how rocks are formed, mountains, and other beautiful sites were told and shown.

In the film the narrator also explains the picture of Earth many years ago. The film also featured the growth of our ecosystem, the evolution of plants, where many kinds of plants grow around the world, the evolution of animals and humans who we never thought that they will destroy the beauty and the balance of the Earth.

I have learned from this movie that in the next 20 years 20% of Earth’s population will consume the 80% of Earths minerals.

There are big changes in every continent. In Asia, Asia has so many natural resources. These resources are disappearing. We can't prevent these changes because these changes help us to survive, but as we survive mother Earth is dying. Africa, the continent where water resources are disappearing. People living in Africa are also suffering food and water problem because of lack of resources. While on North America, as we grow the nation evolve. In this continent technologies are advanced. The problem was the use of technologies, the earths are harmed. In South America, many land and forest were destroyed, because of the emerging intelligence and population of human, people in order to live, they destroy. Mining created a great unbalance our mother earth. Digging for stones can make people popular but this activity can destroy great resources of mother Earth. Many flash floods are emerging from time to time. Cutting down trees for houses also destroy our earth. Deforestation creates a major destruction into ecosystem. In Antarctica, glaciers are melting. Water level is increasing some countries are sinking because of this meltdown.

I learned that in order to survive there must be a sacrifice, unfortunately that sacrifice is the Earth. Scientists tell us that we have 10 years to change the way we live, 2 years of those 10 years have already gone and nothing has changed on the way we see planet earth. We still have time, in the movie the narrator said,

It’s time to come together. What’s important is not what’s gone, but what remains. We still have half the world’s forests, thousands of rivers, lakes and glaciers and thousands of thriving species. We know that the solutions are there today. We all have the power to change. So what are we waiting for?

He is right only we people can restore what has lost and only us can heal and stop the suffering of our Mother Earth.
